Why are the Cleveland Browns looking at hiring another of Bill Belichick's staff? The track record for Belichick's assistants isn't good. Charlie Weis hasn't been able to have a decided schematic advantage at Notre Dame. The Browns just fired Romeo Crennell. The Jets just fired Eric Mangini. Plus Belichick himself was fired from the Browns, although them deciding to leave Cleveland didn't help his situation there. Assistants that work for Belichick become overvalued as it is assumed that they will be able to replicate the environment that has been created in New England. However the teams fail to realize that New England's success has been much more due to Belichick than any other thing. Haven't those teams read "The Education of a Coach?" That book makes it very clear that Belichick's success has been in large part due to his unique background and ability to work hard. Those have been the reasons for Belichick's success so unless the Browns are somehow able to convince Ernie Adams to leave Belichick's side doing whatever it is that he does, the chances aren't good that hiring a Belichick assistant will be very successful.
